About the artwork…

The banner image was painted by the amazing Dermot Power.  It’s based on my screenplay Terminus, which is slowly but…, well, slowly being worked into a novel.  The story is set in a fantasy world in which steam trains have become the sole means of transporting goods and people across a strange, desolate landscape, and the Clans that run the trains rule like feudal lords over the subjugated cities.  The painting shows our heroes, Pence and Tic, on the roof of the hulking heap of a train station in which they live; as “station rats” they are are caught in between the desperation of the city folks and the dangerous power of the Train Clans…

Dermot has also painted this illustration from my novelette Slow Boat.

Dermot is a concept designer for films, including Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, the Harry Potter films, V for Vendetta, and Batman Begins.  He’s currently designing the automaton for the Scorcese-directed film version of Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret.  This may be coolest job ever.

Dermot has also done work on video games like BioShock 2, and comic books such as Judge Dredd, Sláine, and Batman.  He’s also a rock climber, a snowboarder, and a very good friend.

His website dermotpower.com includes galleries of his work on many of his films.  He also has a blog, which features the ongoing adventures of a disgruntled space goblin.
